On San Diego’s stages, Rayme Sciaroni has become known as a director, a writer, a composer, a musician, an arranger and various hybrids of all those.

Now he can add a new hat to that collection: San Diego Junior Theatre has announced that the wide-ranging Sciaroni will serve as the year-old organization’s new artistic leader.

Sciaroni takes the place of the departing Desha Crownover, and will run “JT” alongside executive director James Saba, who joined the Balboa Park-based institution last September (and is himself a former artistic director there).

“I believe so much in this company, and am really in awe of the talent that goes onstage,” Sciaroni said of Junior Theatre, which is considered one of the nation’s oldest youth troupes and has fostered numerous Broadway-bound artists (including such Tony Award-winners as “Book of Mormon” co-director Casey Nicholaw and “Jersey Boys” star Christian Hoff).
