When you’ve been playing since age 4 and performing since age 10, what’s left at 19?

For Eunice Lee, a lot. As she continues studying and stretching her abilities, the young violinist is discovering depth in her music-making.

As a youngster, she dazzled audiences by playing the devilishly difficult Paganini Violin Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

That work won’t be on her recital Saturday when she opens the Christopher Newport College Ramseur Concert Series.

“A lot of people were amazed that such a little girl could play such a difficult piece,” she says. “After a while, everyone wanted me to play it, so I had to put it aside.”

These days, she is avoiding the flashier works and concentrating on ones with more substance.

She’s also revisiting many of the well-known concertos with a more mature eye.
