LaPhonso Darnell Ellis (born May 5, ) is an American former professional basketball player and college basketball analyst.

He previously worked for ESPN before being let go by the company in June ^[1] Ellis played 11 years in the NBA after starring at Notre Dame.

Early career

As a high school player, Ellis led East St. Louis Lincoln High School to Illinois Class AA boys' championships in and In the state title game in , Ellis scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

In the title game, he scored 26 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and blocked 9 shots.^[2]

As a senior, in , Ellis was named a Parade All-American and McDonald's High School All-American.

In , Ellis was voted one of the " Legends of the IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament", recognizing his performance in the Illinois tournament.^[3]

Heavily recruited out of high school, Ellis chose to attend the University of Notre Dame.
